Johnson Controls Gets Landmark Green Light from Queensland Government on YAS Eco-friendly Large Scale Cooling Solutions for Commercial and Industrial Use

We're excited to present our latest innovation to the Australian market: the YAS air-cooled chiller and heat pump range, using R290 (Propane) refrigerant. Notably, it's the first of its kind to obtain the compliance certification from the Queensland government for large-scale commercial and industrial applications, suitable for use in the commercial and industrial space, including supermarkets, and shopping centers and food and beverage processing facilities. This certification marks a significant milestone for Johnson Controls, reinforcing our leadership in delivering sustainable and environmentally-friendly industrial cooling solutions.

The certification process involved rigorous testing and compliance measures. Johnson Controls developed a technical submission to demonstrate compliance with legislative requirements, which was then assessed for approval. Appliances using hydrocarbon refrigerants require additional certification adhering to relevant ISO or AS/NZS Standards. Approvals granted through this process are nationally recognised throughout Australia, New Zealand, and in some cases, internationally.

The YAS range of cooling solutions sets a new industry standard with proven compliance, technical excellence and sustainability commitment. It offers reliable solutions for commercial and industrial needs, ensuring long-term cost savings for customers.

Unlike other approved products primarily for smaller refrigeration needs, the YAS range of air-cooled chillers and heat pumps fills a crucial gap in the market for large-scale eco-friendly cooling solutions. With capacities ranging from 30 to 400 kW, our MC VB models excel in refrigeration applications, such as producing low-temperature glycol for food and beverage cooling.

The YAS standard chiller operates in demanding conditions, maintaining fluid leaving temperatures as low as -2°C. The low-temperature version maintains -14°C fluid leaving temperature, catering to specialised cooling needs.

The YAS heat pump seamlessly transitions between cooling and heating functions, maintaining -5°C fluid leaving temperature in cooling mode and up to 55°C hot water leaving temperature in heating mode.

Propane, or R290, is a non-toxic hydrocarbon with minimal environmental impact, gaining popularity due to increasing regulation of synthetic refrigerants and carbon-neutral initiatives. The YAS range is engineered with safety measures like leak detection systems and enhanced ventilation to address concerns about its flammability.
